And Then There Is London

Today we made the last bit of our journey and it was also our longest travel day since we left Kyiv.  We began the day with an early AM walk…AGAIN…only this time it was to catch a ferry.

We walked along the Liffey River through central Dublin and made our way to the bus station.  The morning was cold, but beautiful.

Once we were on the ferry, we took a few minutes on the upper deck before departing.  And watched the ferry parked next to us leave.  This ferry is the slower one and takes about four hours to cross the Irish Sea.  Our journey was just under two hours.

Goodbye, Dublin…  We promise to come back.  It has been a great visit.  Thanks so much.

Let me introduce you to Anne and Malcolm.  Ann is Irish and Malcolm is British.  They were a wonderful couple that we sat next to on the ferry from England to Ireland.  And before we departed we talked about when we were returning.  We all happened to be returning on the same ferry and made plans to connect in a few days.  They were heading to a wedding south of Dublin.

The most fun part was that Yuri and I ran into Ann and Malcolm in Kilkenny.  During our wandering on Sunday morning I was stunned to see familiar faces on the street and said ‘Hello’.  We all had a great laugh and look forward to our journey back to England in a few days.  It was a great happenstance to run into them and just about made our entire vacation.

Seriously, so many tickets.  But not a word of complaint, because they were booked online and printed at a kiosk…  Ahh, how I love first world problems like too many tickets.  LOL!!!

And we are back for another round of trains at the Holyhead Train Station.

Our train…so cool…and first world…

I honestly think he was a little worried that I would miss the train.  But I had to hop off and quickly get a few shots of the train.  Ah, Virgin Trains…you have a customer for life.  Such a great trip.

Now there is a beach I would not mind walking along.  Looks peaceful and lovely.  Too bad it was a bit cold and windy, oh and I was on a train.

Hello, London.  We have been looking forward to visiting you are months now.

EngIre12 (967)

London Euston Train and Tube Station. It was astonishing at first sight.

Seems silly, right…but not if it is one of your favorite things in America and you haven’t seen such a sign in 20 months.  Chipotle, baby…  Turns out Yuri passed this place when he was here in July and remembered were it was, so after dropping luggage at our hostel, we headed out for some evening walking.  And Yuri knew exactly what he was doing.

Chipotle was the last thing I eat in America at the DC airport with a few other Volunteers.

He had never tried such a thing and didn’t want one, but then eat part of mine.  Seriously, after 20 months without I was amazed I shared.  Next time, he gets his own.  Because no more sharing.

EngIre12 (976)

Worth every pence…so worth it…

The theater district…

A bit of Chinatown

EngIre12 (993)

And a bit of Piccadilly Square

Yuri stood on a post and leaned on me for support as he took this shot.  And it was one of my favorites from the trip. I spy Big Ben….

EngIre12 (1004)

Ah, an English pub….

EngIre12 (1005)

Big Ben and a full moon…

EngIre12 (1008)

Truly breathtaking…

EngIre12 (1011)

Ah, the Tube…  I love the Tube.  And enjoyed that Yuri knew it so much better than I did.  Even with everything in English, one could easily get lost.

And finally we were back to Holland Park.  It was a wonderfully long day.  It was time to catch up with Yuri’s best friend, Alexey, who is working in Moscow these days.
