For now this whole ‘no job’ thing is working out fairly well. I am able to take the time to do things that I never thought possible. My thanksgiving trip south lasted almost two weeks. I spent five days in Coos Bay with Dad and Beth. We did some crabbing, which I always enjoying and always seem to be an adventure with Dad. Dad and I worked on a puzzle. I was able to spend lots of time with my Aunt Irene. Aunt Irene is 93 and I have the same conversation with her five times in five minutes. She has no short term memory, but is always so happy. After my time in Coos Bay, I headed to Eureka California, actually Fortuna. I have an Aunt, Uncle, and cousins who live there. I have taken to making the drive south every Thanksgiving. This year we had 15 people at my Aunt Charlotte.
We had a great time. I played Guitar Hero for the first time and actually enjoyed myself. On Monday we celebrated Auntie’s birthday with friends and family at Ferndale Pizza. Great pizza! Tuesday was computer day. I had ordered a Dell tower for Auntie a couple of weeks before and it was time to get her updated. Her old computer was so old that I couldn’t even save her old files for the new computer, it was crazy. Now she has new tower and all-in-one printer, Windows 2007 and Vista…and so far so good. She loves the cable internet speed, so much better than the dial-up she had. The cable guy arrived early on Tuesday and everything was done before we knew it. Then Auntie and I were headed out for haircuts. I have bangs now and haven’t had them for many years. Wednesday was full of projects and cooking, and family began arriving. Thursday was a great day of family and food. Friday is when things turned to Christmas. The Thanksgiving group gathered for breakfast before everyone headed in differing directions homeward bound. It was now time to pull out the Christmas directions from the attic and get the tree up. By the time night fall arrived we had the tree decorated and the interior of the house was getting there. On Saturday, Auntie, Uncle Jupe, Cousin Trent and I went up to the cabin in Bridgeville.
I had borrowed my cousin Monica’s 223 rifle so I could do some target practice. It a fabulous chick rifle and I actually did fairly well, but should have worn ear plugs, it was a bit loud for me. Saturday evening I went to see Australia with Monica. What a fabulous movie! Sunday it was time to head back to Coos Bay. It was a beautiful drive north. The fog hugged the coastline and the afternoon light was extraordinary. By dark I was heading into Bandon on the way to Sunset Beach for a hotdog roast with more family before a walk through the Shore Acres Holiday Light display. The lights were beautiful. It was a crisp and cool night, and thankfully dry. Of course, dry means more people, the place was packed. Monday I was heading home, back to Portland.
