Just kidding my American friends, I am still not coming home until June, but I had a major success today in relation to my Peace Corps service. And I feel like one of my core jobs here is done!
Olga, my counter part and the person I work the closest with in my office made a presentation today. But not just any presentation. She presented a project idea to a Polish Delegation of funders from Warsaw about a project we designed together. In America, we are used to having a project and then finding funding. In Ukraine, it is more the norm to find a grant application and build a project to fill the need of the application and not always the need of the organization or community. This means that my organization and Olga have an idea that they have processed thru, assessed community needs, written goals and objectives, created a timeline of activities...and are now looking for funding. AMAZING!
We/She could not have done this two years ago, or even a year ago. AND I am thrilled, super excited, over the moon thrilled.
I still have less than eight months left in my service in Ukraine, but after 29 months with my organization and in Lugansk I can see all the work, sweat and teeth pulling making a full circle. And it is FABULOUS!
