Anne and I arrived in Odessa today and are looking forward to exploring the city together. Neither of us have ever been and have heard great things. Our hostel is located close to the old town area and where most of the sites to see are, so we after a nap and a shower, we set out for some wandering. We didn’t make it to far before we stopped to buy opera tickets. The Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater is world renowned and was a must on our list.
We are seeing Rigoletto on Sunday night. YEH!!! And these floor seats cost us $10 per person…
Then for some exploring. The city is teeming with history and churches, and there is no escaping Catherine the Great who is considered the founder of the city.
Admittedly, this is not the first Baskin Robbins I have spotted in Ukraine, but I love the huge outdoor signage in Cyrillic.
Spring has arrived in Odessa and the rest of Ukraine is not far behind, but it is wonderful to spend some time in a city where spring has seemed to arrive overnight. The parks are turning green and filling with people who have been hiding out during the winter months.
Ah, the architecture. I expected great things from Odessa and the city certainly delivered.
I spy a Portland brewery hidden among these coasters.
A perfect way to end the first day…a walk in the park and an evening of cards and wine.
