I should know better then to trust a favor that involves ‘just an hour or so’ of my time, but Sara needed someone in the city of Lugansk to oversee the Write On! Competition for a group of university students, so I agreed. I had no idea what I was agreeing to and am glad I did it, but wow, so much more time consuming than I expected.
The competition is a national competition and Peace Corps Volunteers oversee the creative writing. The students are given prompts at the beginning of the 60 minutes they have to write and blank pieces of paper. And a certificate of participation at the end. After they are finished I grade them all according to a rubic that was provided to me and pass on the higher scored essays to Sara, who is the regional coordinator.
It was a bit crazy, but I had a good time. And it was fun to English at work.
And then I took a picture with every student. Fun, but WOW!
