Victory Day is one of my favorite days in Ukraine. It is a much bigger deal here then even Ukraine’s Independence Day, so I love all the fun!
Victory Day in Ukraine is much like the celebration that occurs for Veterans Day, but even more like a combination between Veteran’s Day and Independence Day. The veterans all come out in their formal attire and are giving many, many flowers by the youth in the community during a city wide parade.
I love the random running across so many people I know here.
Not sure what is going on here, but sure was tempting for another group photo.
And then I spent the afternoon with a few friends for some shaslik in Yuri’s yard. I have been wanting to do shaslik at his place since last summer and he worked hard this year to get the yard ready for entertaining.
Elder and Sister Hatch from the LDS church had not had shaslik during their time in Ukraine, so it was really fun to share this experience with them. And then there was Andrew and Caroline, who are always up for a good time.
Yuri always does such a wonderful job at shaslik. Mom, we are so going to do this when we in the US next summer. I can’t wait to share such a Ukrainian thing with everyone. It was the perfect thing to do on such a great holiday. Thanks babe, you are amazing…and the next time I am hard on you, remind me that you make shaslik like none other.
Ahh, I love shaslik! Will is assisting with the fanning.
I love this picture. No Yuri because he is taking it, but I love the look of this picture. Will is so tall, Andrew is cuddly, Elder Hatch is hiding…and the ladies are all so smiley. It was a wonderful day for all of us.
And then there is Andrew. Oh, how I adore this guy.
