I am starting to pull from more and more recipes that I brought with me or things I have made in the US, but have not tried in Ukraine yet. So, I told Yuri one day that I should make Chicken Cordon Bleu for dinner one night. He was first shocked that I could make such things and then, of course, he wanted to try them.
So I finally got around to it today and I ended up with not just Yuri. After a conversation with Alexey and Yuri telling him what Amy was making for dinner, Alexey looked like an excited little kid, so I invited Alexey and his girlfriend, Iryna over for dinner. It was great fun! I made an old chicken cordon bleu recipe I got from my sister a long time ago, with rosemary potatoes and buttered carrots. We even had peace cobbler and ice cream for dessert.
We had a great time together and it was really fun for me to have people over for dinner. And I love all the PCV’s who are around, but this was my Ukrainian friends and it was a sign of true and actual integration.
