Ten Hours To Kill In Kyiv…

So today was the day I took my mom back to the airport in Kyiv for her trip to Germany and eventually home.  This means that I had about ten hours to kill in Kyiv.  And I had the beginnings of a cold.  Not so good!  Luckily my cluster mate, Sara and her friend, Brian from NYC were in Kyiv for the day.  It was so great to see Sara again.  It had been over a month since our last face time and I miss that girl.

We walked Andrew’s Descent in reverse.  It was amazing!  And I am going back for the shopping alone.  Very Cool!!!

At the bottom of Andrew’s Descent in the Podil area is this old and currently unused train station.

This first picture is the entrance (or exit) for the funicular.  Unfortunately it was not working in September, but this is the way to negotiate Andrew’s Descent without walking it.  The building at the top and in the background in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that place that gives the ok to be in Ukraine.  The picture on the right is a new hotel.

This is the bottom and the beginning of the upward climb.

I spotted this woman and quickly snapped a picture.  She was so untouched by all the activity surrounding her.

And the construction.  I have no idea, but my only hope is that they put the old cobblestone road back in.  Doubtful, but a girl can dream!!!

I love the old cobblestone streets, and watching the Ukrainian women negotiate this in stilettos is incredible.

Andrew’s Cathedral at the top.  And quite different from other churches in Kyiv.

I adore Kyiv.  And one of the reasons is that there are so many streets that remind me of NW Portland.
