My Peace Corps service will bring with it many trips all over Ukraine and this weekend was first time to venture out of Lugansk since my move here a couple of weeks ago. Caroline (another PCV in Lugansk) and I ventured to Debaltsevo to help Neva with a community picnic in celebration of America’s Birthday, Fourth of July.
All three of us are really looking forward to the weekend and spending some time getting to know each other while playing with many of the kids in the community. Let the fun begin!!
Our train ride from Lugansk to Debaltsevo was about 90 minutes with one stop in the coal mining town of Artemivsk. I think! If I am wrong, could one of me Ukrainian friends out there correct me? Thanks! Artemivsk and the coal factories seem to go on for miles and although very black from the coal, it was a great reminder to me of the Industrial Age of America. Such a tremendous site!
Arriving into Debaltsevo and another seriously awesome train station. Vlad gave me a heads up on this one. And it is amazing. More pictures to come.
The World War II Monument in Delbaltsevo. Every city, town and village in Ukraine has one and each one is different and beautiful.
So lovely!!!
This lovely building is home to a music school. I am still completely in love with the old and very beautiful buildings in Ukraine. They are incredible.
