So, during my Peace Corps training I am living in a city with most of the advantages of a city. Some in my group of trainees live in the country. In fact, about 85 of the 105 of us live in the country.
So, last week, Casey and the Ivanivka Cluster invited the city folk for a picnic in the country. It was amazing! You would think I had never seen a chicken, goose, goat, cow, or turkey. The thing about these animals is that all just wander the streets and seem to find their way back home eventually. A first for me were the three stork nests. AMAZING!!
Thank you Casey, Amanda, Adam, Christina and Ivanivka for your hospitality. We city folk had a wonderful time and very enjoyed your town. So beautiful and peaceful!!! We will be back for some swimming in the local waterhole before our Swearing In arrives.
This roster and chicken were so fun! They seemed to be enjoying there Sunday morning and the roster was assuring that no one was taking a Sunday nap.
One of the few wells we passed. Not many homes have running water in Ivanivka.
In Ukraine a stock nest in your community will bring good luck. Ivanivka has several. And I had never seen a stork, let a stork nest, so I was pretty excited.
Not sure why the fascination with the barnyard animals, but they were fun.
Our picnic site. This was so peaceful. All of us enjoyed the setting and just seemed to take a day off from the stresses of Peace Corps training. Thanks again, Ivanivka Cluster!!
Really, we should not let the Americans out of captivity. We always look like tourists around these parts and this wandering cow thought we were a crazy bunch as he rounded a corner and quickly varied in a different direction before the picture happy Americans snapped their ever precious photos of him. Sorry, Mr. Cow!
