Field trip to the dacha

As trainees we have more than a few must-do field trips and today was dacha day.  Many Ukrainians have dachas.  Dachas are usually small plots of land with a small structure or town on them.  Ukrainians use dachas for all their summer planting and gardening.  Typically it is where much of the food is grown for the winter.  Many fruits and veggies can be found growing at dachas.

Many dachas also grow flowers.  Since many Ukrainians live in apartments in the city, dachas are the place in teh country for flowers and food growing.

Most dachas are one story, but here are two larger dachas.

During are visit today many people were out working.  The afternoon was about 80 degrees today and yet many families were busily working in their gardens.  We all had a great time and I loved the idea of having a dacha.  It is great way to escape the city and enjoy country living.
