I have an obsession with train stations. Whether is America or any other country, I love the historic value and romanticism of a train station. And the Chernihiv train station did not disappoint. It it lovely and graceful with beautiful light, and perfect blend of old and new. I have two favorite train stations in the world, Milan and Varenna, both in northern Italy, and I am looking forward to exploring the train stations of Ukraine.
And during our exploring I found this awesome wall. It feels like being a part of decadent history just taking pictures of such art. And of course, I couldn’t resist a pic of two of my favorite wandering companions. Thanks to Ben and Sara making the exploration absolutely fabulous. The three of us have become fast friends and will enjoy many great walking tours in the coming months. You guys are awesome!!
Next for the day was this bell tower. One of these days I will get to the American/English department at the Chernihiv Library and learn more about the Trinity Church and its bell tower. Lonely Planet tells me that the Trinity Church was built in the 17th century and is an important pilgrimage site that is often filled with worshippers. We climbed to the top of the bell tower, about six stories, and enjoyed the most beautiful views of the city. As we ventured down, we past the bell ringer and shortly after we left we could hear the bells. Some day I want to watch the bells being rung, the sounds were amazing and perfectly timed.
This monument, of which I do not know the name, is several kilometers from Trinity Church. It is attached to a park that we are saving for exploration at a later date, but we all loved the stairs. Ben and Sara are ready to run them, and although I may not be so ambitious, they seem fun!
And what is a trek without some very cool windows. And these are cool!
