Many of you have asked if I have any updates and I usually say 'NO'. Today is no exception; however, I did reach out the a contact at the Placement Office about ten days ago and here is the response I received today.
Hi Amy,
I apologize for the delayed response.
As you are aware, the Placement Office was unable to extend an invitation to you for the program to which you were nominated. This is not uncommon as Peace Corps recruits approximately two applicants for every one volunteer slot to ensure that enough applicants are available for placement. Additionally, some applicants may not receive invitations to their nominated program due to the time it takes to process their legal and medical clearances and restrictions placed on their medical clearance.
The Business Desk is currently working on identifying new programs for you and a number of other applicants to whom invitations were not extended. Over the next two to four weeks, we will be getting in contact with you to complete your final evaluations and discuss the timing of new placement options. Please note that few program options are available for the September to December time period. Thus, all but a few alternate placement options will be for programs departing in 2011.
Additionally, please keep in mind that identifying a new placement may require your flexibility in regional and/or assignment preferences.
Please continue to send any additional updates on your work and volunteer experiences.
Please feel free to contact me should you have further questions. We appreciate your patience during this process.
I responded with the following.
Thanks so much for the below.
At times I feel like I am just floating out here, but I have the time so I just keep waiting. I love my job, so no hurry on a departure for me. I realize that departures are limited until 2011, so I will just sit back and relax a bit.
Thanks again for the contact and information. I really appreciate it.
The wait continues...
