The Fourth of July weekend is a great time for camping, family and friends. And that is exactly how I spent my holiday weekend. Officially my weekend began when I boarded a plane in Portland headed for Denver several days ago, but the action really started when my sister and adorable nephew woke me at 440A after four hours of sleep. My brother-in-law, Jack, wanted an early start to the lake, and Ryan and I were riding with him. Seriously early folks, but we just sleepily crawled into the truck with Malibu ski boat attached and headed out. We added to our caravan with more friends a few miles down the road and we soon trekking towards Nebraska.
The weekend was relaxing. Filled with sleep and hours around a campfire. I was actually somewhat anti-social with a book constantly in my hand. Luckily, the group, made up mostly my sister’s friends and our family, live by the philosophy that each persons idea of downtime is different. Mine just happens to be with a book in hand…and I read everywhere. On the boat, on an inflatable island, in a camp chair, at the picnic bench…no place was off limits for me to find my own sense of relaxation.
The lake was ok. The wind was awful. No skiing for me. My sister, Sadie, got some in the last day, but we all just spent our days eating, chatting, hanging out, and floating around. Not a bad way to spend a vacation. Besides the book, I love the floating around. I even came home with a tan line, an awesome one. Yeh!! NO red lobster this time around.
