Just a couple of things…and another…oh, and one more…

When the above is how a conversation with a Peace Corps nurse transpires you know you are headed back to your doctor’s office. And with me, I am so ready to be moving forward that I was willing to just about anything she asked and as quickly as possible.

So the list, well it started with two things and as my conversation with her progressed the list grew to four. After a quick call to my doctor, I was able to get in within a couple of hours.

1. HRQ needs to be redone. The HRQ is the Health Review Questionnaire. The HRQ is 150 questions that are completed once an application for Peace Corps service is electronically submitted. The HRQ is completed by the applicant, in this case, me. Turns out it expires after one year and has to be updated.

2. An updated urinalysis or UA, need to be completed. Turns out that in September 2009 there was an abnormality on my test. The abnormality was a positive test for ketone. Huh!

3. Updated weight and a new blood pressure reading. Turns out my September 2009 reading was slightly abnormal and the nurse asked for an updated reading, with historical data. Ok!!

4. I need an MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) or have my blood checked for MMR antibodies. My last MMR was in 1974 when I was a year old and the nurse asked that I get this checked. After talking to her it just seemed easier to get a new shot. Thankfully, only one.

The HRQ is complete. Luckily it is not that completed, but goodness it is thorough. The ketone came back negative. The blood pressure is 122/74…practically perfection. And I got a shot. Yeh!!

All the paperwork has been updated in my Peace Corps file and I am again waiting. With any luck I will have an answer regarding medical clearance by the end of the week or early next week. And then we move to the placement stage and getting a formal invitation.

WOW!! This has been quite the process.
