Three kids, a teenager, four dogs and a kitten…

Here I sit on a Friday night in my brother-in-law’s home office seriously contemplating my sanity. I love kids…adore my nephew…am a dog and cat person, especially Golden’s and kittens, so how is it I am a little freaked out about 48 hours with two four-year olds, an eight-year old, three Goldens, a Wimrener and Bones, the kitten. And adding a teenager for the second twenty-four hours. Wow!!!

The Lake Powell crew is packed and ready to party for a week. A last minute addition who happens to be a dad of a family in which mom was schedule with the LP 2009 crew, but the dad decided to go at the very last minute. So, with a bit of scrabbling I went from a lowkey weekend with Ryan to a crazy one.

Update:

We had a fabulous weekend!! Saturday I packed a picnic for the kids and we headed to a farm about 45 minutes from the house for strawberry and raspberry picking. As we arrived it started raining. The kids were troopers. We picked lots of strawberries and skipped the raspberries. By the time the coldness was setting in we were back in the car. I set up the kids with a movie (I love in car DVD players and wireless headphones), Lunchables, fruit box drinks, and set up Sydney with cookies to hand the boys after they finished their Lunchables. They were hooked up.

Sunday morning was a bit cold, so instead of the planned adventure to Belleview Park we headed to Obrien Water Park in Parker. We had to be home by 12N for lunch and naps. By 2P the boys were asleep and I was waiting for Kris and Jim (my brother-in-laws brother and his wife). Kris wanted to learn how to can and Laura signed her up with me for lessons. We did strawberry jam and watermelon rinds. Last thing of the day was to take pictures for the cover of the Johnson and Friends 2010 calendar.

Laura and I had come up with the idea of getting kids and dogs together holding different numbers in different poises. And then making a cover with lots of different photos. It was perfect. I had Ryan, Cade, Sydney, Jocelyn and Cameron…with all the dogs in a few.

All in all the weekend was a success. No meltdowns and very tired kids come Monday.
