Internship

Not working I can often be found sleeping or reading in bed at 10A on any given week day. This morning was no different. At 10:02A this changed.

I received a call from a private company called ‘Adagio’. (Adagio is a nonfiction name) The recruiter had found my resume on Monster and was interested in talking to me about an internship within the non-profit area of the organization. After a twenty minute conversation he asked if I could be at the site for an interview in 90 minutes. The fact that the company location is 25 miles from my house made me suddenly jump out of bed and throw on a suit. I was actually 20 minutes early for the noon interview.

I met with the recruiter for 15 minutes. Then I moved into the office of the Director of Finance and interviewed for an additional 20 minutes. Towards the end of this conversational interview with the Director and the recruiter I was offered the position and asked to continue through the hiring process. I had no idea the process was just beginning. I went home with 18 pages of need information for a 15 year background check.

Logistics are minimum wage for pay, thankfully Oregon Unemployment Insurance makes up the difference as this pay rate is less than I make unemployed. The internship will be mostly in the finance department with some movement to differing departments and projects to get forty hours a week. Currently the internship has no end date, but feeds 100% into a permanent position within either the profit or non-profit sides of the organization.

I am greatly looking forward to beginning work with this organization and utilizing my MBA. These student loans may actually be worth something in the end…and I can pay them off.
