Often I am in Kyiv for a short time and passing through…and love to simply enjoy the air conditioning in the office rather then head out exploring. Some PCV’s go their entire service with only a couple of trips to Kyiv, I am not one of those. I seem to be in Kyiv once every couple of months and some months, like September, three times. So I have found myself taking this graceful old city fore granted.
Tonight I had the opportunity to appreciate and just enjoy her on a warm summer evening.
This is Kreschadik Street. It is the very center of the city and always teeming with people. It also has a GAP and Tiffany’s. I know, awesome right! Maybe not a Peace Corps budget, but still very cool. In most major cities the central area of town is all cobblestone sidewalks. I love this feature. And the evening light and old architecture and you have one very impressive look at Kyiv.
I pass this archway all the time and every time I stop and look at it. I wonder how many things it has seem in its lifetime. All the people, transportation changes, clothing changes…astounding!
This blues band was playing on Maiden Square, the central square in Kyiv. It just added to a magical feeling in the air.
Yup, this is how we do it. A warm summer evening in August with a cold beer and peanuts to sit back and people watch. I love my life!
The Maiden…
Looking down Kreschadik Street from the Maiden.
Looking directly across Kreschadik from Maiden Square to Independence Square. This view never gets old.
Ahhh, true Italian pizza. Sim, a clustermate of mine, is great at finding restaurants and Pizza Napule is one of those great finds. Several of us enjoyed a fabulous evening of beer and pizza. Definitely the closest thing I have had to pizza in Italy in a few years. Thanks for the introduction, Sim. I will be going back to Pizza Napule.
They even had amazing desserts.
