Anne and I began the morning with a wandering tour of the village. I am just realizing that I no picture of Anne’s library, but during my next visit I will get one.
It is a beautiful village with a House of Culture and Lenin Square. All the normal things in any Ukrainian city or village. And then there are the guys prepping the live New Years tree. Tis the season!!
Typical Ukraine in the winter!!! I love the blues and differing bright colors that pop through in the photographs.
Anne’s neighbors and the playground near her flat. City life means no chickens for me, and I like chickens.
Our food assignment for Christmas dinner was Potatoes, so we made au gratin potatoes. They were awesome and really fun to cook in Anne’s new oven. She does not have an oven and purchased this several weeks ago. It is pretty cool and highly useful.
Anne and I headed to a children’s play and presentation, and this characters on stilts greeted us in the lobby of the House of Culture. They were incredible.
I am used to street performers in the US, but had not seen any in Ukraine, so even I had to second look these statues.
A constant and fun game was ‘steal the hat’. As you can see the kids had a blast.
I could not help but take a lot of photographs, but I tried to limit to the blog a bit. These kids had a great time.
Many of the kids in the community made different holiday focused crafts. And the garland of candy wrappers is my favorite. I want to make one of those…
This was fun! What happens when put give hundreds of kids chocolate and candy, and then put them all in an auditorium. Noise, and lots of it!! But the vibe was so fun!!
The evening activity for Anne on Fridays is volleyball. This was so fun! I was wearing the wrong shoes and clothes, but I need to find one of these in Lugansk. And it seemed like a completely relaxed game until the referee came out with a chair. It was too funny! Note Anne in the grey sweatshirt getting some major air. Wahoo!!!
No evening at the gym is complete without chocolate, champagne and sparklers. Yeh!!!
We tried to take a picture with live sparklers, but we were too slow. Oops! And the rest of the girls.
Dinner was yummy and I just had to post. Anne’s mom sent a White Chicken Chili packet of seasoning and it was AWESOME! Add sour cream and lavash for some yummy goodness! And of course, Anne’s Christmas Tree with presents underneath.
Today was a blast! So many pictures and new things…so fun!!!
