My new apartment and home for the next 23 months…

So, these have taken two weeks to finally get up, but here are the first pictures of my apartment.  Even now it looks a bit different with book shelves in the entry hall and more settling in.  I will do updated pictures in a few months so all of you can see the changes.

My apartment is about 500 square feet in size.  A bit smaller than my studio apartment that I had in downtown Portland for a couple of years.  I am on the first floor of a five story building.  I have new windows and central heating.  I have no AC, but from what I understand it is cooler this year, so I have been pretty comfortable with a fan.  I am located about a 30 minute walk or ten minute marshutka ride from city center, which is perfect and am a block from the grocery store.

Bathroom.  I have an awesome shower!!!

Kitchen.  Perfect for one person, but I have learned that it is really fun with six people.  The kitchen is still the major place of conversation in Ukraine, just like in the states, but much smaller.

My big room.  The wardrobe for clothes.  Right now the winter clothes are pack in suitcases.  My bed is a futon and is mostly comfortable.  I may get a mattress pad or perhaps a twin bed, but that will have to wait for my budget to catch up.  Moving into my place, although very awesome, was also very expense and hard on both my Peace Corps budget and m American savings account.

And my big room for the other direction.

I have been able to comfortably host eight people for dinner, which is perfect.  And have had up to two house guests for the night.  Both of these will  increase depending on the weekend activities, so I am thrilled to have the space.
