I had a friend ask the other day what my apartment looks like and I thought it was a perfect topic for a blog.
I live in a three room apartment on the fourth floor of a twelve story building. My apartment has a bathroom, toilet room, kitchen, entry hall (as big as a room), two bedrooms, a family room and two enclosed balconies. I am guessing that my bedroom is the family room when there is not a Peace Corps volunteer living here. The rooms are all good size and although the kitchen is smaller than America size, it is still the hub of many conversations and interactions. By Ukrainian standards my apartment seems to be average for a two and even three generation family.
I sleep on a divan, kind of like a couch, but it is about eight feet long. It is surprisingly comfy. I have happily adapted to my space and enjoy the interactions of my non English speaking family. Yup, my home life is 100% Russian and it is quite fun. There are so many ways to communicate and I have used them all in the past four weeks.
My room, very cozy and comfy
The view from my room and the sunset. Another bedroom.
The enclosed balcony off one of the bedrooms. Another bedroom. The entry area.
The bathroom with sink, tub and washer. The toilet room.
The hallway to the kitchen and toilet room. And same hallway from the kitchen.
The kitchen. Very cute and fun! There is a lot of fabulous food that gets made in this efficient little kitchen.
