Yup, I am pretty good at letting those around me know that my birthday is coming and it is my second favorite day of the year. (Christmas is first.) Well today was slightly different then most. Today I am in Ukraine, studying the Russian language and am surrounded by many new friends, but no family. I think I have spent the last three birthdays with my nephew, Ryan, and today I missed him with his Happy Birthday song. I did catch my mom and sister, Sadie, on Skype today, which was awesome.
The day started with my host mom wishing me a Happy Birthday, in Russian and a quick thank you from me. She gave me this awesomely HUGE towel, which my language instructor tells me is a prized gift. It was pretty cool!! Then my host aunt, whom does not live with me, called to wish my a Happy Birthday, again in Russian and very sweet. I seriously have an awesome host family. Then I was off to school and it was time to bake my birthday cake. Yup I brought Funfetti cake mix and icing with me from home. Odd, probably, but well worth it. My cluster was amazing and gave me a cross stitch, card and coffee mug. I love the NesCafe here. After a bit of school and meeting with the other Community Development Trainees for Technical training many of us headed to the internet cafe, 2Goose. After which several of us went to dinner. Thanks so much to all who made this day so great. It was a perfect day.
My cluster and I with my birthday cake…
My chicken for dinner. Yup that is all. And the bill for seven of us. 308.70 rph which is about 38USD, not so bad, but on a tight Peace Corps budget these days.
Thanks again all for the emails, Facebook posts, text messages, phone calls and well wishes. It was a wonderful birthday in my new home. Now I am off to bed with my Kindle. Good Night all…far and wide.

If you get a chance you need to try the "Kiev Torte" It is an amazing unique blend of flavors and textures. I love that you brought a cake mix with you. I bet your host family loved it! I understand how much you payed for dinner. That was a fancy one! Esp. since a 10 hr train ride in a sleeper car in only 60! I am glad your having so much fun amongst the strenuous training.
