The Antoniy Cave and Illinsky Church

Today was amazing.  Two training cluster, Chernihiv1 (link) and Chernihiv 2 (mine) were treated to a tour of the city by the Director of Strategic Planning and Tourism.  It was incredible.  I will have more pictures of the city to follow in the coming days as a I wander to new found locations and discoveries, but the following pictures are all from the Antoniv Caves and Illinsky Church.

The caves are located under the early 11th century Illinsky Church.  The caves consist of 315 meters of passageways. galleries and chapels constructed from the 11th and 13th centuries.  The caves lack mummies as the conditions were too cold and humid for mummification.  Instead, the bones of monks killed during the Mongol invasion are preserved in a windowed sarcophagus.
