I cannot believe after all the deferrments and the lengthy process that this day has arrived. I have been invited to serve as a volunteer in the Ukraine, departing March 28, 2011. I am thrilled, seriously words cannot even began to express how excited I am.
Here is the assignment...
Country: Ukraine
Program: Community Development
Job Title: Community Developer
Dates of Service: June 23, 2011 - June 23, 2013
Training in the Ukraine: March 30 - June 23, 2011
Community Development
The Community Economic Development Project aims to enable businesses to improve their profitability and non-governmental organizations to achieve sustainability and expand their services to local populations. Volunteers transfer free-market business skills and expertise through teaching and consulting to business associations, individual entrepreneurs, nongovernmental organizations, schools and local governments. Volunteers organize trainings on marketing, business infrastructure, sales techniques, advertising and public relations for entrepreneurs and business students in communities throughout Ukraine. Citizens’ involvement in local governance has been encouraged through programs on inclusive budgeting processes, citizen information bureaus, cooperative investment strategies, and public-private partnerships.
I am already being asked what is next.
The first step was to read through the mountain of paperwork that arrives in an invitation kit. I have a booklet for my assignment, a volunteer handbook, a Ukraine Welcome Book, And four folders titled: Visa and Passport, Resume and Personal Papers, Finance and Insurance, and Staging Material.
A few minutes ago I sent an offical acceptance email to the Business Placement office. So I can become an official Peace Corps Ukraine Trainee.
I now begin the overwhelming task of organizing my life for my sister, who is my liason in the US, and getting through all this paperwork that is due inside in the next ten days.
One the side of everything else, I will be continuing to focus on my Russian language classes, both my community ed class and the suggested online Peace Corps classes.
And with all of this I am still thrilled to say that I am no longer a "Peace Corps Applicant" and am now a "Peace Corps Trainee". WooHoo!!!

So exciting!
VERY exciting! Congratulations!!!
Hello Amy,
I have the same invitation as you, so hopefully we will meet on March 28! I had been looking for other "community developer" blogs, but yours will give me a different perspective. I look forward to reading your blog. Be well.

Hi, Amy!
Congratulations on your assignment! I received my invitation to Ukraine as a Community Developer on September 20. It seems to be a perfect match for me. I am an "older" volunteer, having had a historic preservation practice in architecture with my own office in St. Charles, Illinois, for over 30 years. I am looking forward to meeting you and other invitees at staging and in киів to start this new adventure in the Borderland.
пока!
