My day of messages and conversations…

I had some paperwork to get through for the Peace Corps this week.  I was headed up to Portland for lunch  with a friend and needed to get some paperwork for my dental clearance signed by my dentist since I was up there.  This line of tasks started a barrage of tasks to complete and questions to try and answer.  With the delay of medical clearance I have wondered how it will affected my May departure  and what the final invitation date will be for May service invitation.  I also wanted to let my Peace Corps nurse with my medical file know that I was sending my Pap Smear lab tests and that it would be another two weeks before my next blood test.

First call was to the Seattle Peace Corps office.  I had a great conversation with Anthony.  He gave me my placement officer’s name and number.  I also learned that there is a date in which invitations for the Caucasus Region will no longer be issued for a May departure, but that my placement information will not be formally reviewed until after I have received my medical clearance.  He advised that I contact my placement officer and see what additional information she can provide to me.  He also stated that touching base with my placement officer can’t hurt and it makes her aware that I am trying to take care of my medical deferments as quickly as possible.  Kudos to Anthony!!

The second call was to Amy Cooper, my Peace Corps placement officer.  She is located in Washington DC and is responsible for placing me with assignment and country once I am medically cleared.  I left her a message and asked that she call me back.  Within two hours she had returned my call and I was able to touch base a bit.  She did tell me that she will not review my placement until I am medically cleared and that she couldn’t tell me how many slots were still available for the Caucasus Region with a May departure.  She also could not tell me when the placement office will stop issuing invitations for a May departure.  So, right now I am just winging it and we will see how it all works out in the wash.

The third call of the day was to Robert Gordon, my Peace Corps nurse.  He is assigned to me for medical review and evaluation.  I left him a message and did not hear back, but I just wanted to let him know what was coming in the mail.  I didn’t request a call back, but just needed to leave some information.

So, my last stop as I headed back to the museum today was at the post office.  My dental paperwork and x-rays finally made it into the mail today.  I had to drive across town for one last signature from the dentist who extracted my wisdom teeth.  Finally my paperwork was ready to go.  Who knows why I was putting off the signature and mailing, I suppose because I never thought I would be medically cleared.  And now that is becoming more of a reality, so I guess it is time to finally mail the dental stuff.  Such fun!!!
